Springbok Handbags are all the Rage

Trendsetter: Someone who popularizes a new fashion item.

We’d like to think we are trendsetters, since we featured a springbok handbag months ago on our website:

This beautiful handbag was handmade in South Africa, imported by Oliver’s Farm, and added to the Bling Borrowers‘ rental collection back in March.  Since then, many other Springbok handbags have been popping up.

At $18/week we can guarantee our Springbok handbag is the easiest on your wallet.  Which will leave you enough money to invest in other fashion items in your quest to become a trendsetter.

Matching Handbags to Body Type

We’ve all seen it.

The perfect outfit on the wrong person.  We quietly think to ourselves, “that would look great… on someone else.”  Problem is, if no one says anything, we will continue to wear the wrong thing for our body type.  We’re here to put an end to this silent suffering.

Here are some basic tips on how to select the appropriate handbag according to your body type:

Balance

As a rule, tall ladies need larger handbags; small ladies need smaller handbags.

Here are some examples of ladies who get it right.

At 5 feet, 9  1/2 inches tall, Naomi Campbell can pull off this larger Louis Vuitton handbag:

At 5 feet, 2 inches, Reese Witherspoon sticks to smaller handbags:

Here are some examples of bags out of balance:

Handle Length

Ladies with larger hips (pear shape) will want a handbag with a shorter handle.  That way, the bag rests on her waist drawing the eyes upwards, not adding more bulk to the hip area.

Jennifer Lopez with a shorter handled bag that accentuates her waist, not her hips:

Ladies with larger mid-sections (apple shape) will look better with a longer handled handbag.  This may include crossbody or messenger type handbags.

Longer shoulder straps allow the handbag to rest below the waist, drawing eyes down and not adding bulk to the mid-section.

Salma Hayek with a longer shoulder strapped handbag to draw the eyes down:

Function

Women who work in a formal business setting may want to opt for a more structured handbag, whereas women who are want a more casual look are better suited to a hobo or less structured style.

Miranda Kerr demonstrates a more formal look, complete with structured Prada Saffiano Luxe Leather Tote:

So, there you have it.  Balance, handle length, and function are the three keys to matching a handbag to your body type.

Do you match your handbag to your body type?  If not, we encourage you to try it!

Why I Shouldn't Have Nice Things

by: Leigh-Ellen Thomas of Little Waterlily Blog

I recently went to grab some lunch for the Husband and I from the cafeteria at work. Quesadillas looked good and came with little plastic containers of salsa and sour cream. They were basically little plastic bowls with lids.

I paid the girl at the cash register and then, faced with balancing two plates with quesadillas and four plastic containers of condiments I popped the salsa and sour cream in my bag.

Luckily at some point my brain turned on and realized I was putting fairly flimsy containers of salsa and sour cream into my rented Michael Kors Hamilton.

This is why I shouldn’t own nice things. I’m rough on my things!

My best friend and I own the same pair of Steve Madden boots. She got slightly perturbed when my dog sat on hers. I wore mine into a muddy corn maze. My sunglasses will wind up in the lake or ocean with me whether they’re designer or cost $5 at the gas station. Once I own something I tend to forget about price tag and such use it!

I’m usually hyper paranoid about my rented bag for the first 36 hours I have it. Once I’ve had it a week I treat it like it’s mine! Luckily rented things can come with insurance! Perhaps they should also come with a warning siren.

The Bling Girls can attest to the fact that I’ve always sent the rented bags back in completely respectable condition…. no salsa included.

Leigh-Ellen Thomas lives, loves and shops on the East Coast of Canada with her husband, golden retriever and the cat who rules them all. For more fashion, travel and pet peeves visit her blog at http://littlewaterlily.blogspot.com/

A Note from The Bling Girls: Leigh-Ellen’s handbags always come back in PRISTINE condition! Nary a speck of dirt, salsa, or sour cream in sight :)
