Haunted Accessories for Halloween

So I've been an Alexander McQueen fan for years, long before Sarah Burton took the helm and created that dress.  In case you don't know which dress, it's the one a lass named Katherine wore:

Long before that dress, Alexander McQueen was creating fabulous, yet unconventional fashions for his namesake label.  The label carries on that tradition today.  In honor of Halloween, and Alexander McQueen, here are a few Haunting Halloween fashions!

Here's what we have purchased already:

1.  A bag you all know and love... the Louis Vuitton Damier Ebene Speedy 30:

The Louis Vuitton Damier Ebene Speedy retails for $775 in stores.  We will be renting for $40/week, $120/month, or $320/season (90 days).  If you would like insurance it costs $7.50/week, $18.75/month, or $30/season.

2.  Coach Ashley Scarf Print Sateen Satchel: This satchel can be carried by the top handle or it has a shoulder strap.  The shoulder strap can be conveniently tucked away under the bag and held there by snapped straps so it does not get in the way while you carry it by the top handles!  An innovative new design by Coach!  The black patent leather adds shine to your fall/winter wardrobe!

The Coach Ashley Scarf Print Sateen Satchel retails for $498 in stores.  We will be renting for $25/week, $75/month, or $200/season (90 days).  If you would like insurance it costs $5/week, $12.50/month, or $20/season.

3.  Coach Ashley Plum Patent Large Satchel

These pictures really don't do the bag justice... we will be getting professional pictures taken before the bag hits the website.  The colour of the bag is a rich fuchsia/plum colour with a beautiful sheen from the patent leather.  The second picture shows how the shoulder strap can be neatly tucked away under the bottom of the bag.

Strap Happy Handbags

So, we've noticed a bit of a trend lately... handbags with cuffs, belts, and straps.  Perhaps it's so that us busy women can just strap on a bag and not have to worry about it the rest of the day?  Or, perhaps designers want to lock us into our bags so we don't lose these expensive treasures?  Whatever the reason, you might want to strap one on today.  Here's a sampling:

1.  The Handcuff Handbag

Ever been arrested?  Nope, me neither.  However, if you want to "do time" with your clutch, here's just the bag for you:

2.  The Belted Bag

Forgot your belt at home?  No problemo!  Just grab one from your handbag and you'll be good to go!

3.  The Strapped on Handbag

In case you're afraid you might lose your handbag, it might be best to strap it on.  That way, you won't have to worry about setting it down and forgetting it (like you'd forget your $1000+ bag, but just in case...)

Large Handbag or Small Clutch?

Big bag or little bag? Which type of bag girl are you?

I am most definitely a “shove your whole life in your handbag” kind of girl.  On a recent trip I managed to cram in not only my wallet, keys, hair brush, lip gloss, chewing gum and phone but also my camera, doggy treats and a litre wide mouth Nalgene bottle (the dog loves drinking from it).  I love a HUGE shoulder bag with lots of pockets and things to help me attempt to keep things organized.

That’s one reason I recently rented the Michael Kors Gansvoort Leather Tote.  Also, it’s gorgeous.  I loved that bag and enjoyed the longer strap giving me cross body options that my usual hobo doesn’t offer.  However, I did find it a little heavy at times.

I recently realized that I currently do not own a clutch.  I don’t.  Not a single clutch.  Crazy right?  Clutches are very in right now but I’ve never seen them as overly practical.  I have enough to carry in life without having my bag in my hand all the time so I never saw the purpose of the clutch.  How do women do it?

Then I was browsing the Bling Borrowers website and I just fell in love with this Michael Kors (see a theme lately?) Python Collette Clutch.   It looked adorable and I have a lot of fancy, fashion related events in the course of three weeks.  I figured what better time to rent for a month and try out the whole clutch thing!

Only problem.... I carried it to a fashion show last week and now I don’t want to give it back.  It’s so pretty! Expect some outfit posts over on my blog in the coming weeks! In the mean time, if you’re usually a “bigger is better” kind of girl, give a little bag a chance.  It’s not the size that counts right?

Designer Handbag & Jewelry Rentals

by: Lisa McLatchie of Practical Fashionista Blog

Have you ever bought an expensive and trendy designer handbag, only to have it end up sitting in your closet because you got bored of it? Well, no more! Now you can enjoy all the designer handbags you want for far less thanks to an awesome new company I recently discovered called Bling Borrowers - a company with the largest selection of designer handbags, jewelry, and accessories for rent in Canada.

Bling Borrowers was created in Calgary, Alberta by two sisters who had a weakness for designer goods, but also liked saving money too!  They were finding that once they invested in a designer item though, they would either...

1) use the item a few times, then it would sit in the closet collecting dust (that’s an expensive dust bunny!)

2) use the item every day (to get their money's worth!) until it got old and it was not so chic and fashionable anymore

So, the sisters figured there had to be a better way!  Why not pay for only what you use?  And so, Bling Borrowers was born!

Brigitte Shine Large - Badgley Mischka
For the price of one expensive designer handbag, you could rent something different each month for the same price!  That's like getting 12 handbags (one rental per month) for the price of buying 1! From Coach to Chanel, Michael Kors to Louis Vuitton - they have a designer for every budget and personal style.

How cool is that?!

So cool that I picked my own bag to try out for the month...what do you think?

Braided Grommet Shoulder Tote - Michael Kors
Okay, let's get to it then - you didn't think I was just going to just tell you about Bling Borrowers and brag about my new bag without offering you something , right? Of course not! So, here's the deal...
Bling Borrowers is offering all my Practical Fashionista blog followers and Facebook fans (in Canada only) 50% off any  posted monthly or seasonal rental. All you have to do is call 1-888-57-BLING (25464) or email customerservice@blingborrowers.com and mention "Practical Fashionista" to redeem.

Now for the fine print - This offer is available only to Canadian residents, and is only good until December 31st, 2011. There are wait lists for some of the bags, so don't delay if you think you want to get in on this offer!
